Excerpts:
ISAbella is one of the leading figures of the Barcelona club scene, but her reach goes far beyond the DJ booth. A co-founder of celebrated LGBTQ party, platform and collective MARICAS, she’s become a veritable icon within the city’s queer community while carving out space for dancers of all stripes and backgrounds to find connection, both on and off the dancefloor. A native of Colombia, ISAbella has always been passionate about music, but it’s in Barcelona that she’s come into her own as an artist. In 2016, she started the ‘Mistress’ club night — which continues to exist as an acclaimed mix series — but it was two years later that she helped launch MARICAS, which immediately injected a new (and distinctly queer) energy into Barcelona’s nightlife and creative community. It didn’t take long for the city — or the wider dance music world — to take notice. In 2020, ISAbella kicked off the MARICAS Records label with her debut EP ‘Audio Exótica’. That momentum only strengthened as the world began to open back up, with MARICAS leading multiple special editions of Boiler Room, curating stages at festivals like Dimensions and Body Movements, and bringing the house down during an unforgettable closing slot at Primavera Sound. ISAbella has been at the center of all these things, and has also leveled up her own craft, effortlessly gliding into the upper echelon of the international DJ circuit with her life-affirming blend of House, Techno, and Trance. Aside from residencies at Oxi Club (Berlin) and Nitsa (Barcelona), she’s been booked for world-renowned festivals like Glastonbury, Love International, Dekmantel Selectors and MUTEK, along with esteemed clubs such as London’s Fabric, Phonox and Pickle Factory, Frankfurt’s Robert Johnson, Berlin’s ://about blank and OHM, Helsinki’s Kaiku, Paris’ Concrete and other beloved nightspots too numerous to list. MARICAS opened the door, but ISAbella has now burst through it, and she’s determined to bring her entire community along for the ride.

SYNK — one of our favourite duos and friends since the early beginning — consists of the two producers Naomi Camilla & Ida Stein. We were first seduced by their taste for hot and eclectic electro and House vibes (including Russian 80s samples!!!) blended with dreamy synthesizers, percussion, and harder electronic music; Techno, Hardcore, Acid, Breakbeats, House, even elements of Disco and Trance. Eclectic, yes, sometimes even challenging, but always surprising — joyful! — serving pleasures of body/mind. During Covid lockdowns the duo focused more on producing, which led to new releases, recently the track ‘Acid FX1’, and in 2021 they released a Breakbeat remix of ‘Nejjj’ by Nattl4mpe on the Bergen based label Mhost Likely, also available on vinyl, ‘Lykkemaskin (Prins Thomas Mix)’ (Full Pupp, 2021), or their first EP ‘Ting Skjer’ (Full Pupp, 2021) — a title expressing how the best of accidental luck can strike you, and that’s how Ida and Naomi feels about life and how their friendship started. We feel the same: They have played with us uncountable times as sort of in an unlimited residence, created good vibes (and a good view, too) — and continuing doing so: the Munch Museum, Ingensteds, Khartoum Contemporary Art Centre, Kulturhuset (Oslo and Bergen), virtually during our ‘Virtual smoke signals’ and the takeover of Barcelona friends MARICAS, or as part of the magic at the Vigeland Museum. In 2022 we enter Det Gamle Biblioteket and the ‘House of Joie’ after more than 2 years of limbo. After that: MUNCH during the opening of Oslo Pride 2022. Now it is time for a new year, more fun.
